Mary Fox

Since her first exposure to ceramic arts at the age of 13, Mary Fox has known this is her life’s work. Self-taught, she has worked as a professional potter since 1979. Today she is an established artist with international collectors, including Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza, Italy; Ultima Ventures Corporation in Calgary, Alberta; Praxis Design Company in Vancouver, BC; and many private collectors. She has exhibited since 1986, and her work has been featured in numerous books, journals and magazines.
From her studio/residence in Ladysmith, BC, Fox creates both functional and purely decorative works. Her focus is on expressing the beauty and strength of pure form. Inspired by classic Greek vase, chalice, and amphora vessels, she uses advanced throwing techniques to create tall and elegant decorative pieces with uniquely layered glaze finishes. She creates almost all of her own glazes and experiments endlessly to produce the textured crawl finishes that are her signature. The original clay and rock pedestals that anchor her narrow-stemmed vessels were also developed by me.
