Marok's works are meticulously composed, highlighting the atmosphere in which subjects are immersed. The soul of the artist is always visible in the canvas, and his characters are almost always tinged with a hint of nostalgia. Marok¹s work is never banal.

John F. Marok studied studio arts at John Abbott College, Concordia University and York University. He has been awarded grants by the Canada Council for the Arts and Quebec¹s ministère de la Culture, and has painted and completed research residencies in Europe. An accomplished painter, he has been working and exhibiting for over 25 years.

John Marok is a solitary thinker who lives and feels the themes he explores in his paintings. To know his work is to encounter the soul of the artist. The man is introspective, whimsical, sensitive and fragile, and to his canvases' iconography he melds the impressions that move him. The painter feels emotions that he transfers to canvas. Taken together, his themes illustrate the fragility of a human being¹s inner life as he perceives it, as he is invaded by it.
