Dimensions of Colour

Barbra Edwards/Doug Fraser/Todd Lambeth

June 26 – July 15, 2020

Extended until July 22, 2020

Winchester Galleries is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition Dimensions of Colour to celebrate our colourful summer. This exhibition includes the works by local artists, Todd Lambeth and Doug Fraser, and features the works of Barbra Edwards from Pender Island. Provoking the sense of discovery, these colourful abstract expressions envision masterful colour and form combinations. We invite you to join us at Winchester Galleries to observe this collection in person following B. C’s social distancing guidelines.

Barbra Edwards has a full-time studio practice on Pender Island, BC. She studied Photographic Arts at Dawson College in Montreal, and majored in Photography and Design at Ryerson University in Toronto. Ongoing studies with Harold Klunder and earlier, with Peter Kolisnyk followed, along with selected workshops in the U.S. and Canada.

The natural environment has long been a source of inspiration, with the plant and animal world having a major influence on her paintings. Edwards’ highly refined colour sense in her work triggers people on an emotional level having nothing to do with verbal language. Hers is sensuous story telling, with brushstrokes that share with the viewer how the painting was made

Doug Fraser Following four years studying graphic design and illustration at the Alberta College of Art & Design, Fraser moved to New York, attaining an MFA from the School of Visual Arts. An award-winning illustrator for 29 years, Fraser's clients included The New York TimesThe Washington PostTIMENewsweekRolling StoneMother JonesMotor Trend, IBM, NFL, NHL and Levis. In the 90s he moved to Calgary where he taught at his alma mater, ACAD. Fraser now lives and works in Victoria, where he has developed a body of work linking artistic influences such as pop, abstract and figurative art with personal observations.

Todd Lambeth investigates the abstract relationship between space and colour. Influenced by Cubism, hard-edged Modernist painting, comic books, and candy wrappers, Lambeth’s colours reference the world of advertising and design. His visually stimulating paintings express the artist’s interest in perceptions of pictorial space and are a direct response to the proliferation of digital imagery and imaging technology.
