Iola Scott in attendance; Karel Roessingh, pianist
Scott’s current depictions of Lower BC land and seascapes glide back and forth across the representational and abstract boundary. Boundary Bay is the land of 18th century Netherlands together with the skies of today. These unlikely complimentary combinations result in cross-genre satisfaction with a hint of the supranormal. The venues emerge as familiar; but not quite.
A seamless blend of brush and knife, with generous use of pigments, provide easy travel through her frequently foreboding fall and winter days as well as easy wandering in bright summer afternoons and luminous nights across deep waters.
Exposure to music and painting in post-war Britain set the foundation for Scott’s recording of the Canadian scene. Living in BC since the 60s, Scott has revelled in the Canadian scene most of her life and delivers it to you forcefully.
