Harold Klunder was born in Deventer, The Netherlands, in 1943 and emigrated to Canada in 1952.  He received his technical art training at Central Technical School, Toronto. In 1983 he moved to Flesherton, Ontario, and in 2000 to Montreal. Klunder’s artwork is abstract, lush, formal, biomorphic; human shapes are evoked.  It fills the notion of ‘psychic realism,’ a term he has used to describe his artwork.

The world faces possible demise; the Enlightenment can seem illusive. Klunder’s work acknowledges that predicament and provides a consonant ordering or what might be termed a healing response.  This is seen in his use of colour, its layering for instance, and the time and care he takes with each composition.

Recently The National Gallery of Canada bought ‘Infinity on Trial,’ an 8’x24’ painting which Harold Klunder completed in 2007, and in 2005 the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts acquired a large self-portrait by him.
