Jessie Homer French was born in New York in 1940.   As a child she was intrigued by Grandma Moses' work and in the years since, with little formal training, has developed her own narrative style.

Her many solo exhibitions were first at a Los Angeles gallery and for the last decade at Winchester Galleries in Victoria.  Her work has also been featured in numerous group shows in California and British Columbia.  Her paintings are part of several important public, and scores of private, collections across the continent.

A more complete biography and a comprehensive look at her work is available at www.homerhandling.com.

I've always painted, and I've always painted where I live, lived, or visited.  These paintings are more of my recent or near recent home places.

I don't like to intellectualize about my art.  I paint because ... I paint.  I paint my surroundings; places, animals, fish, people.  I paint them straight on, up at, or down to.  I paint what I see with my real eyes, sometimes adding something from my mind's eye.

The Stealth Bombers?  I never actually saw them, but they did fly unannounced over the Northwest and their shape and foreboding are intriguing.
