        This exhibition of work by Montreal painter John Fox (1927- 2008) explores the range of his representational imagery from the earlier years of his long career.  These intimate images introduce his evocative exploration of places, people and things through his superb colour, subtle play of shapes and elegant balance of the spaces in-between the forms.  Fox’s mastery of the physical and sensuous process of painting in these works led him to abstraction in the 1970s and a return to representation in the late 1980s.  Whatever the subject, his magical colour determines the resonance of the image and the enduring emotions of the world of sight and sensation.
