At 796 Humboldt Street (in the Belvedere)

OPENING RECEPTION
Saturday July 9, 2011
2:00 pm – 4:00 pm   Kenna Fair in attendance.

It is no surprise that Kenna Fair’s work reflects a deep-seated connection to the landscapes and life-forms of the West Coast considering that she's a 5th generation Northern Vancouver Islander.

Whether turning her discerning eye to the world ‘above’--through her depiction of the vast array of birds populating the Pacific Northwest--or to the range of creatures stirring in tidal pools and below the oceans surface--Fair’s work compels viewers into an enhanced state of attentiveness to the beauty that surrounds us.

Fair’s appreciation of the interconnectedness between creatures and their habitats is literally etched into her work with each and every one of her intimate west coast portraits beginning with a wood carving.  These chiselled lines draw you into the space and capture the dynamic energy and intrinsic character of the natural subjects she portrays.

Fair’s treatment of light, vivid use of colour and richly textured works bring the eco-systems she renders to life and beckons us to look beyond the surface and see the minute details in our midst.
